- "The last day for getting married is Shrove Tuesday - until after Lent. There are generally a few marriages on that day. Some people says it's not right to marry in May. It was a great custom long ago, to go to the houses match-making. The groom-to-be would another man with him and have a bottle of whiskey in his pocket to treat the girl's father. If the girl is pleased the day is fixed for them to get married. The breakfast is held in the bride's home and they have a big night in the groom's home singing and dancing.
