- Miss Thompson of Cranley, Edgeworthstown told me there are not very many ruins of note around Edgeworthstown except what is called "Charleton's folly".
These ruins are on the land owned by Mrs Fagan, Moat-Farrell.
Charleton was a very rich man and owned a considerable amount of property.
He had two very selfish Aunts who did not want him to get married so that he would have no heir to his property.
He was so vexed with them he built this folly and mixed the mortar with bullock's blood so as to get rid of some of his money.- Informant
