- (continued from previous page)his own potatoes without any outside help.When the little buds come up the clay is knocked off them by means of a manure fork, when fully up they are earthed with a double plough all weeds pulled, they are then left till July when spraying operations start. Each acre is sprayed with a solution of Sulphate of Copper and soda crystals 8 to 10 lbs per acre to prevent early blight. After this they are left until September when they are dug and sorted and put in pits. In olden times they were raised by a plough and picked up but now they are taken out by means of begger. The eating potatoes are stored in a house for that purpose only the seed is put in a pit and the small ones are used(continues on next page)
