“There was once an old man who lived in Newbaun...”
There was once an old man who lived in Newbawn and every morning when he got up, his milk was all blood. One day a man came in and told him never to go to bed without putting a can of water on the stillin. He did this and ever after the milk was right- Long ago it was the custom to wake people in the barns and to get clay pipes and snuff to hand around to the people who came to the wake. This was done "for the soul of the dead person". It was also this custom to give away the dead persons clothes "for(continues on next page)
