- Long ago there were ships coming from foreign countries with people. A lot of those people who came out of those ships had leprosy and not to let the leprosy pass through the whole town they built a hospital to put the lepers in. This hospital was built up in Maudlintown where an old graveyard stands now. Anyone who had leprosy would be sent out of the town and put up in the hospital. There would be nuns and priests there to hear confession and to say mass every morning but no one would be let go near them.
