When Father Michael Murphy sent a messenger to Castlebridge, for the men of Begerin Island and the surrounding mainland, and for men that could handle the long barrelled fowling pieces used by them at that time for shooting wild game in the "Slimes" which now form part of the North Slob, only twelve men answered the call.
    One of the men was named Pender and he resided near where Fortunes of Knottown live at present. The other eleven were from the Ardcolm district.
