    In the Penal Times Mass used to be said in a barn belonging to Mr Sinnott of Oldtown just outside this village.
    At that time the Catholics could own very little property and if the "Proctor" or Tithe
    Gathers like he could take a valuable horse off them for very little money.
    Larry Maddicks was the name of the "Proctor" in this district and he lived in a house just outside the middle of the village built on Mrs Sinnots field . A Mr James Kehoe how lives in a house near the site of the old house which is now down.
    Mr Nick Rossiter of Ardcavan found a stone of a Rosary Beeds just at the Mass Hole some years ago but he
