The old people that are still alive are far stronger than the younger people of the present. - The bread the people ate mostly in olden times was oat bread and barley bread.The oat bread was made of oatmeal with water, some salt and very little soda. The mixture was baked either on a pan or propped before a fire. When this cake was baked it was as hard as a board. The barley bread was made in much the same way.In those times a slim cake or a boxty loaf was made for Christmas. The slim cake was made of boiled potatoes and flour.
