According to local belief the worst storm in this century occurred on the night of the 23rd of February 1903.
The majority of the thatched houses of the country were stripped of their roofs while slated houses also suffered considerably. The farmers suffered considerable losses as all their hay and straw was blown away.
All roads leading to Eden-derry were blocked with fallen trees. Many people were killed with fallen branches. In the wood of Ballindoolan there ere three hundred dead crows found the next day. Many people were knocked down by the wind.
