  1. In my district in olden times the teachers used to go to houses and lodge there. They used to teach the children in the houses. The chidren in the houses used to sit on chairs and the teachers had a table. the children used to write with slate pencils on slates. The teachers used to teach reading, writing, tables and history and sums. There was no Irish taught here at that time. The teachers used to go to a different house to stay each night and they generally remained six months in each district.
