- The shop, owned now by Messrs. D.E. Williams in the village of Mount Bolus, was formerly owned by a Mr Commins.
It was a public house or inn and was called "The Hive". On a board outside the inn door the following verse was written.
"In this hive we're all alive
Good Liquor makes us funny
If you be dry as you pass by
Drop in & taste our honey."
A wag passing one day, read it, and added to it the following
"Your Bees are asps. They sting like wasps.
Your Liquour is adultrated
And any one frequents your house
His misery is completed"
Partly behind the same house is a waste piece of rocky ground, a kind of no mans land called "The Devils Half Acre" On the rocky ground is an imprint resembling the track of a cow's hoof, but much larger. It's supposed to be a track made by Old Nicks Hoof, when(continues on next page)- Informant
