- There was once a hedge school in Bloomhill and the teacher's name was Kieran Fleming. The school was in the middle of the bog in an old hut. The principal subjects taught were English and Catheschism[?]. He used to slap them with a cat of nine tails. There were about twenty pupils attending the school including some "poor boys". By "poor boys" my grandfather means some boys who had lost their father and mother. These boys lodged at each house around the school to get their education(continues on next page)
