Beside the church are the vaults of the Malones of Ballinahown Court which court is now inhabited by The O'Donoghue of the Glens of Kerry. - St. Finian's Church was built in the 12th Century by the monks of Clonmacnois, in honour of the great teacher of St Ciaran of Clonmacnois.
