- Three miles South East of Clonmacnois in a tillage field at the back of the Chapel lies the famous Clonfanlough Stone. It is four hundred yards from the chapel and facing the East, having a flat top and in a slanting position, a lesson in itself. There are cross-men and loop-men carved on it. Many antiquarians examined this stone but could make nothing out of it until Abbe Brueil desciphered it(continues on next page)
