- In olden times there used to be great work and sport goin on in the “ould coort”. There used to be goolden carpets on the gran’ avenue out to Tom Kilmartin’s door an’ beyond it. The track of the ould avenue can still be seen. It’s them ridges that are in the field. Under the castle there are big rooms full of goold cups and dishes an’ things like that.
Long ago there were mermaids living in the Shannon. They used to come in the long Summer’s evenings out of Snav ga Ean, and swim down to the bank at the back of the castle. There they used to sit racking (combing) their long goolden hair(continues on next page)- Collector
