- Long ago the houses were built of yellow clay and mud. The windows were very small because they were afraid a robber would get in. The chimneys were were made of yellow clay and scallops. The walls were white-washed inside and outside. The floors were made of blue clay. There was a iron bar put across behind the door at night and shoved into a hole in the day.
