- Fairy FortsThere are no fairy forts in the school district. There is a fairy fort in Rathbeg. It is covered with shrubs such as hael trees, black thorn and whitethorn trees. There is an old dyke around it. It is circular in shape. There is also a fairy fort in Castletown. It is in the lands of Mr. Stanley. It is also circular in shape. There were bushes growing in it but the Stanleys cut them and filled the fort with earth and sowed corn in it. The Stanleys are supposed to be in communication with the devil. They are supposed to be able to take butter and milk from other people's cows.Collected:- Patrick Garahy, Mile Tree, Birr, Offaly.(continues on next page)
