    Travelling due west for four miles we reach the village of Borris with its population of three or four hundred people. This village stands in the only gap of the surrounding ring of mountains and opens up the roads to fertile Kilkenny and North Carlow.
    Travelling nine miles north-west we reach the second most important town of Co. Carlow, namely Bagenalstown. Due south two miles is the village of Ballymurphy, whilst south-east three miles is the Wexford border
