  1. Some years ago their lived in St. Mullins a man named Michael Ryan. Michael had an awful habit of spitting. He was working for Major Kavanagh of Borris House. One time he ran short of money and he went to the house to see the Major. When he reached the mansion he knocked at the door and when the Major came and opened the door Mick said to him "Begor sir you have a very snug spot here". Then the Major brought him through the house and Michael spat everywhere he went. The Major started pushing a spitoon with his walking stick. Until at length Michael who was not pleased with the Majors anticks said "by-if you don't take that out of my way I'll spit in it".
