  1. William Shannon. Grangeford. Parish of Rathoe was the greatest thatcher in this district. He used to thatch for two shillings and sixpence per day and his diet. The thatch he put on lasted from twenty to twenty-five years. The tools he used were a Truster and he firmed the thatch with Scallops and on the new portion he would throw water, and then rake it with a thatcher's rake.
