- (continued from previous page)for stopping bleeding from a cut, which was often practised by children long ago, was to chew plantain, or "rib-grass", and apply it to the cut. I recently cut my finger and bethought of the old remedy. I got some leaves of "rib-grass", chewed it well, applied it to the cut and though it had been bleeding freely, the blood ceased coming in a few minutes.
Kehoe's Blood for Anthony's Fire. There was a family living in Rathvilly some years ago, and some of the descendents are here still, whose blood was said to be an infallible remedy for Anthony's Fire. In order to get the blood a finger was tied tightly with a tape until the blood was forced to the top, which was then pricked with a needly, and blood applied to skin eruption.
