  1. James Coyle was a travelling poet. He made a song, a lament for Father McPhillips when he was leaving Newbridge.
    Farewell to our prelate bright, who from amongst us went,
    And every one around Newbridge is caóining deep lament
    For eighteen months he laboured here with heart and willing hand,
    'Till October last to our regret he was transferred to Glan.
    He afforded us facilities of every class and mode.
    The first great thing he started was the making of a road,
    Where by our children they can go for education through.
    To the house that stands upon the rock now known as Shannon View.
    The next thing was the industry the butter making line.
    For in this good cause the women of the country did decline
    They attended there five nights a week and it was them that took delight.
