   Long ago houses were made of dried mud. These houses were made in a sunny place so that the mud would dry quickly. They were called mud-cabins. The roofs were made of mud and straw mixed. These cabins had never any chimneys. Instead they had a clay pipe out of the side of the house. The fire place was always at the side wall. Turf and sticks were generally burned.
