   were never in the houses but now they are common. Clay floors was what they had, the men dug blue clay and cut it up and baked it with spades and when it dried it was like the floors nowadays. In some houses clay floors are still to be seen yet. They spent their winter nights making candles, first they gathered rushes and dried the, then they left them in butter or grease and left them to dry then they made candle sticks out of wood and it was called a "sconce" for to hold the candle in.

   The houses in the district long ago were all thatched with straw or wheat. There were a few of them mudwall houses but they are repaired now and that place is called ''mudwallow.'' In the small houses there was a bed in the corner at the back wall and
