    Some three thousand miles away.
    From the high green hills of Erin.
    On this Blessed St. Patrick's day.
    In a city's lonely garret.
    Thinking of the days of yore.
    When I used to pluck the shamrock.
    From the dear Lough Gowna shore.
    Yet to-day without the shamrock.
    Cruel fate, Ah, can it be.
    Are my friends all dead round Gowna.
    When they send it not to me.
    Hark, me thinks I hear a footstep.
    It s the postman at the door.
    With a letter and a shamrock.
    From the dear Lough Gowna shore.
    "Brother dear, accept this trefoil
    Plucked by your fond sister's hand
    Well I know, it will give you comfort
    In that dreary distant land.
    It will remind you how together,
