- Another name for Whitsuntide is pentecost. It is kept in memory of the coming of the Holy-Ghost. Whit-monday really means white. Monday people used to appear out in their summer clothes.
It's date varies but it is always in May or June. It depends on the time that easter is celebrated.
There are some superstitions in connection with Whitsuntide. People regard it un-lucky to bathe or swim as they say the person will be drowned and animals that are born on that day are usually cross.- Bailitheoir
