- Butter Making: Stories
About nine or ten years ago a woman known as Fairy Harriet, lived in Ballintemple and it was generally believed that she had the power to take butter of milk. It was said that she could not take the butter unless she first borrowed something from the house.
One day, when going to Ballinagh, she went to a house and told the woman she had lost her ganter. she asked the woman for something with which to make a ganter. the woman gave her a ganter and the next evening her butter was gone.
A man who lived beside her summoned her to court because he could get no butter when he churned.
One Summer's evening, her neighbours heard terrifying cries coming from her house, and saw butter flying out on the windows. It was believed that someone had milked her cows and in that way had got back his butter.
