    Mr Russel and Charles Sullivan the prisoner did defend
    The cross-examiner spoke for hours, the jury sat in gloom
    But still they found a verdict that sent ODonnell to his doom
    The judge he passed a sentence in a voice bout low & weak
    ODonnell asked permission for a little while to speak
    Judge Demmond said "you are too late", ODonnell did loudly cry
    Three cheers for dear old Ireland; United States Good-bye.

    The warders gathered round him; they took him beneath the floor
    The door soon closed behind him; poor ODonnell was seen no more
    This man will be remembered all o'er the would you see
    He was hanged on December the 17th in the year of eighty three.
