- When the sky is cloudy it is a sign of rain. When the sun sets pale it is a sign of rain and if it is red it is a sign of good weather. When the ring is far away from the moon storm is near hand, and if the ring is near the moon the storm is far off. If the wind blows from the north you will have frost, and if it blows from the east you will have snow. A half rainbow is the sign of wild windy weather and a full rainbow is the sign of good weather. The crows and starlings fly high in good weather and in bad weather they fly almost touching the ground. When there is storm coming the cat scrapes wood. When there is rain coming the dog gets sick and eats grass. When rain is coming the clocks run from their hiding places. When the smoke hits the ground it is a sign of rain. When the soot is soft and falling it betokens rain. When there is strong heat out of the fire, it is a sign of storm.
