  1. Song

Early on a Monday Morning I wandered to a rippling rill

    (1) Early on a Monday Morning.
I wandered to a rippling rill.
I wandered down both slow and easy
Until I came to Claudia Mill.
    (2) A fox we started that morning early
To save his life he used his skill
But he was close bounded and well surrounded
Down by the borders of Claudia Mill.
    (3) When Francis Snow heard the alarm
He thought it no harm to see the fun
He then fell in with crafty Reynard
When Heaslip came with his loaded gun.
    (4) Snow cried aloud "do you not fire"
"For if you fire you will shoot me"
"It makes no odds" says cruel Heaslip
"Which of you two I do" said he.
    (5) At that very moment the gun presented
And as he fired the fatal ball
With a sigh and dreadful murmur
To the ground poor Snow did fall.
