    could hear it rattling as it made its way deep into the ground, while men from Kildorough who were working in a field there are said to have heard strange sounds in the ground on the same day and the people supposed it was the iron bar still going along under the earth.
    The fairies are supposed to have been found dancing and singing on the Moate in olden times.
    There was a castle on the top of the Moate in olden times and the owner's name was Rahan, thus Castlerahan got its name. The castle was seized by the Danes and burned to dust, but Rahan had got a warning that the Danes were planning to destroy his castle and he and his followers at once started to bury the gold vessels and all the valuable things which were in the stronghold together with his money and when this was done he and his followers went into the underground cave in the centre of the castle and there
