    to kill anything or draw blood on that day.
    On the last day of April there used be gads put on the cows tail for May morning. First the owner would get a rowan - berry bush, and tie pieces of red ribbons on it, and then tie it to the cows' tails. The reason this was done was that any evil eye might not fall on the cows.
    If a man were going to a fair, and met a red - haired woman on the road, he would turn back. They used say that he would not sell. They used also say if they met a mag - pie they would not have any luck.
