The ruin known as Flemings Castle dates back to the Norman conquest. It was erected by Hugh De Lacy, chief Governor of Ireland. It then came into the possession of Robert Fleming, Baron of Slane. It was a tall, five storeyed, well built structure. The ruins of it may still be seen. On a corner stone embedded in one of the walls there is a cutting bearing the initials "R.F. Robert Fleming. When the present Church was being erected in 1780, Divine Service was held in a part of the building.(no title)

The origin of the Tuesday Market is. One of the Flemings got leave to hold a Tuesday Market twice a year. It was founded in the year 1609. This market still continues. It was held near "Tobar-na-splinc.
