(continued from previous page)going to be hanged went out of the place where he was, and in to an old outhouse. He saw the skeleton of a horses head. There was a birds nest in the horse's head and eight young birds and an old bird in the nest. He made up a riddle about the birds nest. He went in to the house where he was at first and the riddle he asked them was, "As I walked out I then walked in Death I spied and life within. Eight spoke out and one got free. Riddle me that and it's hung I will be. They could not answer the riddle and the man got free.
