  1. The farm animals which we have at home are a horse, two cows, two pigs and one calf and the domestic animals we have are a dog and two cats and we also have about sixty hens. Very few in this district have names on the cows. When driving the cows some people say "hi-ho", "hi-ho" and others say "gee-up, gee-up" and "how-how".
    The cow-house is called a byre. There is a group in it and a manger. There are ventilators on the byre to let in fresh air and there is a window on the back of it for throwing out the manure. There is a stall for every two cows. Some cows are tied with chains and others are tied with halters. They are tied to stakes. The general way for tying cows around this district is by the neck. The halters are made of cord. The tyings are not home-made - they are bought in the shop.
