    notice from the Inspector a Mr McWarner that he would hold the annual examination on the 13th of that month which happened to be Monday. The previous Friday was a terrible wet day. Rain fell in torrents from early morning, the floods rose, the pool before the door overflowed and surrounded the school. After some time I noticed the boards of the old floor rising up and before I could get the children out we were knee deep in water. Home we went. I spent the next-day, Saturday cleaning out the mud, and scouring up the old boards in the floor. I then got on a big turf fire on the hearth and when it was well kindled I spread the red hot-coals over the wet floor and brushed them backwards and forwards trying to dry them up. This went on all the day.
    I returned to the school early on Monday morning hoping to see my floor fairly dry, but to my horror it was wetter than ever. It was a bitterly cold day, snow falling heavily
