From the school door and looking west, we can see a cattle shed which was originally a public-house and afterwards was used as a church before the present church was built in Knockerra. In O. S. Map it is in field are 2.937 (3rd field W. of Cross on S. side of [?] Rd. in Fergus) The farm in which it is situated originally belonged to the Hannon family of Newmarket. Many members of this family were priests and one Fr. Hannon was P. P. in Knockerra about 100 years ago. He lived in the farmhouse which is now occupied by Mr. Patrick O'Brien. A long stone-built wall runs to the east of the house and this spot was his favourite walk when reading his sacred Office. It is still known as "The Priest's Walk".
