“There was a rich man called Studdert living in Clonderalaw one time.”
There was a rich man called Studdert living in Clonderalaw one time. He had a large estate in which grew a large wood which contained many valuable trees and shrubs. After Mr. Studdert's death two men went to the wood to get a tree which grew there. They had the tree cut when they saw a man approach them from the wood whom they recognised as Mr Studdert. They put the tree on their shoulders to go home, but if they did Studdert jumped upon it and they had to leave it down. They tried several times to bring it but without success. Then they sent for a tailor a man of great courage. They put the tree on their shoulders but the same thing occurred again. The tailor gave him a blow of his fist and the man vanished out of their sight into the wood. Then the other men brought home the tree and locked it carefully in their barn so that no one could take it. But when they got up in the morning the tree had disappeared. Then they went to the wood and the tree was growing where they had cut it the previous day.- Collector
