  1. One day Ted Ravey ( a well known character in Belturbet for many years) was driving an ass out the Cavan road, and he was beating the poor animal. The Parish Priest - Father John Brady R.I.P. - came along, and when he saw Ted beating the ass, he said, "Oh Ted! why are you beating the poor donkey? Do you not know that Our Divine Lord rode into Jerusalem on a donkey one time?" "Well, your Reverence", replied Ted, "it was not this ass he had. If he had this "fella" d---a foot he would ever set in Jerusalem.
I heard this story from an old nun in Belturbet.
