- During the Famine in Ireland the people in parts of Co. Cavan did not suffer as much as they did in other places.
One time during the famine a woman came into a house and she had a baby on her back. She asked if she might boil nettles to eat. The woman gave her Indian meal to boil with the nettles and the woman said it was the best meal she had had for weeks.
