“The Clifferna Fort is situated two miles from Grousehall.”
The Clifferna Fort is situated two miles from Grousehall. It is on a very high hill and surrounded by a very large mound or "ditch". When you stand at this Fort you can see at least four other forts.
It is said that this fort was erected in the time of the Danes in Ireland by inhabitants to defend themselves against the invaders. The people that lived in Ireland at that time had wonderful magic power and could change themselves into anything they liked.
The people in this fort were surrounded by the Danes and were about to be killed but they decided to change themselves into Fairies and become invisible in day time. It almost frightened the lives out of the Danes to find them disappear into the ground.
These fairies are there from that day to this. They are never seen in day time but on a nice summer's evening when darkness closes in they can be seen dancing and playing the loveliest music you could hear.
