a terrible disease called The Black Cholera and about three hundred people are supposed to be buried there. Michael Colwell's stepmother was a nurse in the hospital.
Not far from Ballyjameduff stands Cirginia. This is how Virginia came into existence. Queen Elizabeth gave a captain in the British Army a grant of money to built a village to accomodate about 100 people. Instead of building a village he built six wooden houses on a hill, this is where the Presentation Convent in Virginia now stands. With the rest of the money he built a Catle for himself at Ballinagh. His family of Tayors and Sankey came with Cromwell's army and destroyed it. The ruins are to be seen still on Lough Ramor.
The White Canons had their monastery on Trinity Island in Lough Oughter, but they were put out of it in the time of the Penal laws. However they are back now in Kinacrott. The ruins of the monastery are to be seen yet in Trinity Island and the door of it in on the Protestant Cathedral in Cavan.
