- (continued from previous page)fled to a wood which faced the back entrance. In the meantime the soldiers reached the house and finding no occupants determined to search the wood. On their entrance to the wood a heron rose up off the ground and flew away. The soldiers noticed this and one of them said there must be nobody in the wood when the heron flew away as they came. He said that if anyone had come into the wood before them the heron would not be there. The soldiers agreeing on this point returned again.
During this conversation between the soldiers the young girl was cowering behind one of the trees. So great was her joy, when the soldiers departed, that she told the story to her father that evening. From that(continues on next page)- Collector
