- A. The strangest disease in cattle in this part of the country is a disease known locally as worm in the tail. The animal pines and even in the middle of winter will run across a field with his tail erected as cattle do when "gadding" in the summer months. People say he is suffering from "worm in the tail" and that the worm gradually eats up the tail and enters the back bone and kills the beast.
