  1. A long time ago a woman name Kearns in the townland of Killfree and in the parish of Gurteen, Co. Sligo. This woman heard her father saying that if you went to such a well on a New Years night at twelve o'clock the water would turn into wine. While it was turning you could have three wishes. The next New Years night she went to the well. While it was turning a cat passed. "That the tail may fall off off you" said the woman. A man came along and hit her with a stick. The woman got vexed, "that the tail may fasten to you". The man went home with the tail fastened to him.
