"Friend, I seek a night's shelter under your roof." It was usual to give a bed in the kitchen or barn to any traveller who sought a night's shelter.
The stranger made his request but was met with a refusal. He was not sad at this, but he smiled and said; "Friend, you know not whom you refuse. In my house hospitality was never refused to any traveller, and if you refuse me evil may befall you."
The stranger was then invited in and after a while the man of the house said; "We usually say the Rosary here at night sir, would you like to join us?" The stranger replied "Thank you sir but we do not pray with living men."
The man of the house accompanied him to his chamber. In the morning the stranger was not in the room and to the amazement of the man of the house the half-years rent which was stored up in the house had also gone with the man.
