A few hundred years ago a town was supposed to have been in Ballyanny, the most principal house in the town was owned by a man named Hugh and as time went on this town faded away and there was no direct roadway into it except an old lane. The field where it was is to be seen yet. That is how it got its name Hugh Town but in later years it was changed to Ballyanny. It is in the parish of Puckane.
