- One time whips were made in Nenagh but the making of them was discontinued.
About fifty years ago a man lived in Chapel Lane and he made them. There were two kinds of whips to be got:- sheepskin ones and horseskin (sic) ones. The sheepskin whips cost fourpence and the horseskin ones cost tenpence. The former were used by people who had asses and the latter by people who had horses.
This was the manner in which they were made:- Four thongs of leather were plaited together and a noose was left for the handle.- Collector
