  1. In former times the people sought remedies for their ailments from one and another.
    The cure fir the mumps was to put on an asses winkers and someone drove the person around the pig sty three times.
    The remedy for the toothache long ago was to pull a tooth out of a dead man's skull with the person's own teeth. It was said the person would never have the toothache again.
    The remedy for the chin-cough was to put the person through the Cord of Saint Frances which was got from a holy place.
    The cure for the measles was to boil nettles and to put milk and sugar on the juice and drink it.
    The cure for a sty on a person's eye was to get ten gooseberrys
