- The only holy well in the vicinity is Tubberpatrick in the County Longford. It is about six or seven miles from Arva on the right hand side of the road as you travel from Arva to Longford. It is said that St Patrick delayed here on his way from Granard to Templepark when he went there to destroy Crom Cruach. It is said he blessed the well and drank some of the water out of it.
Locally it is believed that the water of the well will cure warts. One of the boys in the school told me he went there, poured some of the water on the warts on his hand, with a piece of rag. This he hung on a tree or bush near the well, believing that as the rag withered so would the warts. He said the warts disappeared after some time. His name is Rory OConnor Arva. His own account of it is given in his exercise book.- Collector
